Kulvik Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland sophomore center back William Kulvik was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Kulvik was key to the Terps' 1-0 win over Michigan State, scoring the game winning goal in the first half and leading a Terps' back line that limited the Spartans to no shots. It was the first match in which Maryland has not allowed a shot since 2006.

Kulvik previously won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30. Nick Richardson (2x), Nicklas Neumann and Chris Rindov have also won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards this season. Malcolm Johnston was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13.

Maryland returns to action against Delaware on Tuesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., from Ludwig Field.
