College Park, MD -- Maryland field hockey student athletes Danielle Van Rootselaar and Rayne Wright have earned NFHCA National Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, the organization announced Wednesday. The Terps are the only program to sweep the NFHCA National Weekly Awards this season.
 
Danielle Van Rootselaar brings home her first career National Offensive Player of the Week honor after sparking the Maryland attack with an outstanding eight-point weekend. The Bilthoven, the Netherlands native scored all four Maryland goals, including consecutive overtime game winners to lift the Terps over No.3 Iowa and No. 2 Northwestern. The midfielder converted three penalty corners and one unassisted goal line drive to help the Terrapins claim two top-5 road victories in a three-day period. The graduate student also earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her performance.
 
Rayne Wright receives her first career National Defensive Player of the Week award after anchoring the Terps defensive effort over the weekend. Wright was a key defender for the Maryland defensive unit that held then-No. 3 Iowa and then-No. 2 Northwestern each to a singular goal. Wright and the Maryland defense limited Iowa and Northwestern to a combined seven shots on goal and eight penalty corners. The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native was also a key piece in holding Northwestern fifth-year forward Bente Baekers to just one shot on goal over the entire 60 minutes of game action.
 
After their two weekend victories Maryland is now the only Big Ten school to remain undefeated in conference play and leads all of Division I with 11 wins. The Terps return to action as they host Indiana on Friday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m.
