COLLEGE PARK, MD -- On a momentous and historic night where Rainelle Jones became Maryland's all-time leader in career blocks, the Terps dropped a hard-fought match to Illinois in three sets (15-25, 22-25, 23-25).
Jones got the record out of the way early, recording two quick blocks in the first set to officially claim the most career blocks in Maryland volleyball history.
After dropping the opening frame, the Terps battled hard in the second, fighting back from a 20-16 deficit to knot the game at 20 before ultimately falling.
Illinois took a hard-fought, back-and-forth third set to claim the three-set victory, marking the first time Maryland has been swept this season.
Led by Jones, Maryland recorded 10 blocks to Illinois' six and continued its streak of outblocking every opponent this season.
The Terps fell to 9-8 and 0-5 in Big Ten play while Illinois moved to 8-7, 3-2.
