
Terps Sweep Rutgers, Earn First Big Ten Victory

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Maryland (10-8, 1-5) claimed its first Big Ten victory of the season with a dominant 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-16) sweep over Rutgers (7-11, 1-5) in a match that the Terps controlled from the opening point.
The Terps took command of the match early, taking the first set behind five Sam Csire kills and three blocks from Rainelle Jones. Anastasia Russ and Laila Ivey each added a trio of putaways as well.
Maryland was even more dominant in the second frame, jumping out to a 12-6 lead and taking off from there. Led by Ivey and her five kills in the set, Maryland's offensive skill was on full display as the Terps hit .480 in the frame. Ally Williams came in for Maryland's first match point and forced an overpass with a great serve.
The two sides went back and forth to start the final set until the Terps used an 9-0 run to take control of the frame and officially claim their first win in Big Ten play this season.
With 10 blocks on the day, the Terps continued their streak of outblocking every opponent in each game this season. Jones led the way with six blocks.
