
Three Terps Named NFHCA National All-Americans

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Three members of the Maryland field hockey program were named to the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-American Teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Hope Rose and Danielle Van Rootselaar were named to the First Team, while Emma DeBerdine made the Third Team.
Sophomore Hope Rose was named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic First Team, All-Big Ten Second Team and the Big Ten All-Tournament team. She led Maryland in both goals (14) and points (36) while finishing fourth in assists (8).
Graduate student Danielle Van Rootselaar earns her first NFHCA All-American honor during her lone season with the Terps. The Brown University transfer and senior captain was a catalyst for the Terps all season tallying 12 goals and three assists across 23 games. Van Rootselaar was also selected as a 2022 NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic First Team member, All-Big Ten First Team honoree, and received NCAA All-Tournament selection in her first tournament appearance.
Senior Emma DeBerdine was a key player up and down the field for the Terps recording seven goals and seven assists in 18 games this season. She earns NFHCA All-American honors for the second time, being named to the third team in 2019. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania native was also named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic First Team, and All-Big Ten First Team. DeBerdine, a team captain, was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and the 2022 NFHCA Senior All-Star Game.
Maryland advanced to its 21th Final Four as a program in 2022, topping No. 13 Liberty and No. 8 Syracuse. In their Final Four match, the Terps rallied from a 2-0 deficit but ultimately fell to Northwestern 2-1.
