
Maryland Inks 24 Student-Athletes During Start of Early Signing Period

COLLEGE PARK, MD – University of Maryland Head Coach Michael Locksley announced that 24 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play football for the Terrapins during the early signing period, which began on Wednesday.
The 2023 class is currently ranked No. 33 by 247 Sports. It's highlighted by a trio of four-star ESPN300 selections – Edge Neeo Avery, LB Dylan Gooden and TE Rico Walker.
The Terps signed two of the top seven players from the state of Maryland (Gooden, Avery) and nine of the top 35 players from the state. Additionally, the Terps bring in the top-two rated wide receivers from Maryland (Ezekiel Avit, Ryan Manning) and the top-two rated tight end from the state (Avery, AJ Szymanski).
The 24 student-athletes hail from eight different states and the District of Columbia. Nine signees are from Maryland, while there are three each from Florida and New Jersey. The class includes two signees from each North Carolina, New York and Pennsylvania, and one each from DC, Georgia and Michigan.
The Terps added 12 players on offense (4 wide receivers, 3 tight ends, 2 offensive lineman, 2 running backs, 1 quarterback) and 12 players on defense (6 defensive backs, 4 linebackers, 2 defensive lineman).
Eight signees will enroll early and participate in spring practice – Tamarcus Cooley, Dillan Fontus, Ryan Manning, Tayvon Nelson, D.J. Samuels, Dylan Wade, Rico Walker, Braeden Wisloski.
The early signing period extends until Friday and the remainder of Maryland's 2023 signing class will be announced on February 1.
