#GolfTerps Head To Big Ten Championships

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Maryland Women's Golf team is back on the fairways after a short week of preparation for the 40th Big Ten Conference Women's Golf Championship. The event caps off ten regular-season tournaments spanning the country. 

The Terrapins look to build on their 6th place finish leading into the Championship against Big Ten opponent Ohio State last week. Over the three-day event (Apr. 22-24), Big Ten student-athletes will play the par-71 - 6,045-yard Fox Chapel Golf Club in a stroke-play format.

All Big Ten Conference schools will be in attendance for the Championship. The field of 84 includes participants from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin.

Maryland will start Patricie Mackova (So.), Maria Vittoria Corbi (Jr.), Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (So.), Angela Garvin (Jr.),  Panassaya Somchit (Fr.), and Elena Verticchio (Sr.).

Lena Capoccia (Sr.) will not be competing in the Championship due to dealing with a season-long injury. But will be on-site cheering for her fellow Terps. 

Tee Times
Final Round:
-Elena Verticchio (+20) will lead off Maryland teeing off at 8:57 a.m. in group seven alongside Leanne Halama of ILL and Emily Hunter of OSU.

--Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (+15) will tee off at 9:06 a.m. in group eight with Siyan Chen of ILL and Jilliam Bourdage of OSU.

-Angela Garvin (+11) will tee off at 9:16 a.m. in group nine with Alise Knudson of ILL and Alexis Phadungmartvorakul of OSU.

-Patricie Mackova (+2) will tee off at 9:25 a.m. in group 10 with Kornkamol Sukaree of ILL and Lauren Peter of OSU.

-Panassaya Somchit (E) will tee off at 9:35 a.m. in group 11 with Isabel Sy of ILL and and Aneka Seumanutafa of OSU.

-Maria Vittoria Corbi (-2), celebrating her 21st birthday during the final round, will round out the Maryland squad stepping on the tee in group 12 at 9:44 a.m. alongside Crystal Wang of ILL and Faith Choi if OSU.



Round Two:
-Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (+12) will be first off for Maryland at 9:27 a.m. in group seven with Lezanne Halama of ILL and Kelly Su of NU.

-Elena Verticchio (+9) will tee off at 9:36 a.m. in group eight with Alise Knudson of ILL and Lauren Nguyen of NU.

-Angela Garvin (+6) will tee off at 9:46 a.m. in group nine with Siyan Chen of ILL and Irene Kim of NU.

-Panassaya Somchit (+1) will tee of at 9:55 a.m. in group 10 with Kornkamol Sukaree of ILL and Kelly Sim of NU.

-Patricie Mackova (-1) will tee off at 10:05 a.m. in group 11 with Crystal Wang of ILL and Jieni Li of NU.

-Maria Vittoria Corbi will round out the Terps, stepping on the tee box at 10:14 a.m. in group 12 alongside Isabel Sy of ILL and Jennifer Cai of NU.


Round One:
-Elena Verticchio will lead off the Terps and the Championship off at 9:30 a.m. in group one alongside Nicole Hanson of NEB and Gia Feliciano of WIS.

-Panassaya Somchit will make her championship debut following teammate at 9:39 a.m. in group two with Miu Takahashi of NEB and Nicole Ciskowski of WIS.

-Angela Garvin will tee off with group three at 9:48 a.m. with Micaela Vavrova of NEB and Chole Chan of WIS.

-Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer will make her Championship with the Big Ten in group four at 9:57 a.m. with Vanessa Bouvet of NEB and Emily Lauterbach of WIS.

-Maria Vittoria Corbi will step onto the tee at 10:06 a.m. in group five, playing with Megan Whittaker of NEB and Mackenzie Hahn of WIS. 

-Patricie Mackova will be the final Terp teeing off in group six at 10:15 a.m. alongside Kristen Baete of NEB and Vanessa Ho of WIS.

Last Season
In 2020-21, Maryland was one of the runners up, falling to conference champions Michigan State by five strokes along with Michigan and Nebraska at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, OH.

Mackova placed in a three-way tie for 11th (E), and Corbi placed in a three-way tie for 41st +10)
