Terps Continue Strong Performance In Classroom During Spring 2022 Semester

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland Athletics programs continued their strong performances in the classroom in the Spring 2022 semester. Maryland's student-athletes combined to record a 3.116 grade point average during the semester, the fifth semester in a row with a GPA of better than 3.0 and 11th time in 13 semesters with a better than 3.0 cumulative GPA.
The overall cumulative department GPA is now 3.196, the 12th consecutive semester that saw the overall cumulative GPA above a 3.0.
Maryland celebrated 94 student-athlete graduates this spring, following the semester.
It was a standout semester as 37 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA and 147 earned Dean's List recognition. Overall, 292 student-athletes achieved Athletic Honor Roll status for posting a 3.0 or better GPA.
"The Spring semester was one for championships on the field for the Terps as well as in the classroom for our teams," said Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "I am so proud of our student-athletes performing at such a high level in their academics. We continue to be inspired by their dedication to their studies while competing with their athletic programs. Our GSAC staff is to be celebrated as well for their commitment to education and fostering the consummate student experience. This is a time to celebrate our student-athletes, we are so proud of them."

Maryland is a prestigious institution with phenomenal degree programs. Our student-athletes are gaining the credibility necessary for successful careers after sport. Moreover, I'm honored to work alongside our dedicated and professional academic services team. Our GSAC professionals are mentors, counselors, advisors, and academic coaches to our student-athletes. Daily, they provide the advice and resources necessary for academic success. Congratulations to our student-athletes for their academic achievements. There were 14 programs posting a semester GPA of greater than 3.0 led by the gymnastics team with a 3.632 GPA. Fifteen programs have a cumulative GPA of greater than 3.0, led by the gymnastics team with a 3.618 GPA.
The men's lacrosse program had 36 members of the Honor Roll while the football team had 34 Honor Roll members. Women's lacrosse had a department-high 19 members of the Dean's List with 30 Honor Roll members and six team members posted a perfect 4.0. Gymnastics and had nine team members with a perfect 4.0, the most for any program.
Seven programs had double-figure members of the Dean's List led by women's lacrosse along with women's track & field (17), football (14), gymnastics (14), softball (13), men's lacrosse (11) and women's soccer (10). Thirteen programs had at least 10 team members on the Honor Roll, led by men's lacrosse along with football (34), women's track & field (30), women's lacrosse (29), women's soccer (23), gymnastics (20), wrestling (17), men's soccer (15), softball (15), baseball (13), field hockey (12), men's track & field (12) and volleyball (11).
