Maryland Ties Temple In Nemzer's First Game, 1-1
8/18/2022 6:37:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Maryland women's soccer team rallied to secure a 1-1 tie against the Temple Owls in the season opener and the head coaching debut for Meghan Ryan Nemzer with the Terrapins.
The two teams were deadlocked for the first 63 minutes of a game until the Owls earned a corner kick that ultimately resulted in a Temple goal. Just three minutes later, a deflected ball led to a little bit of chaos and Amanda Schafer found Alina Stahl alone by the net for the tying goal.
Coach Nemzer's Take
"I thought we competed once we conceded. I talk about response a lot and I thought that we responded well. I think it's a great opportunity for us to learn and we need to compete for 90 minutes now. We'll go back and look at film, but I was happy with the response. We did create several opportunities, so it's not that we're not creating, now we just need to finish it."
Player's Perspective
"I thought it was a really good first game for us," Stahl said. "It was a time for us all to come together. I thought we fought through all the adversity we faced through the game. We just need to finish our chances next time, which I'm sure will come because we created so many."
