Breaking Down the Action
- The Terps struck just 1:26 into the match. Kento Abe swung in a cross from the right flank that Luke van Heukelum headed off the cross bar and in.
- Maryland doubled its advantage in the 17th minute. Kimani Stewart-Baynes' ball into the box deflected off the goalkeeper right into the path of Max Riley, who finished from close range.
- Michigan State took control of the second half from the outset and was rewarded with a Jake Spadafora goal in the 59th minute to make it 2-1.
- The Spartans leveled the match on a Jonathan Stout header in the 77th minute.
- "I'm disappointed to only get a tie out of this game. We took a 2-0 lead with a terrific first half and we didn't find a way to see it out. Michigan State came out with a lot of energy and we were forced to defend almost the entire half. Credit to Michigan State for finding a couple of goals. The little things that we needed to do, we just didn't get it done. The effort was there and the quality was outstanding in the first half. We just ran out of gas in the second half."
