Maryland Opens B1G Tournament With Shutout Victory Over Iowa, 2-0

Box Score ANN ARBOR, MI -- Three-seeded Maryland opened the Big Ten Tournament with a 2-0 shutout victory over the six-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes Friday in the Quarterfinals. The Terps (15-4) outshot Iowa 19-6 in the contest.
  Hope Rose and Sammy Popper each tallied a goal for the Terps, while Margot Lawn and Maci Bradford earned an assist apiece.

The Maryland defense shutdown any offensive pushes from the Hawkeyes. Alyssa Klebasko made two saves on the night for her fourth shutout of the season.  
 
Breaking Down The Action
  • The first fifteen minutes was all Maryland as the Terps put up three shots early. Iowa's first shot of the day came with only 27 seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • Iowa earned a penalty corner to open the second quarter that was shut down by Maryland's defensive unit.
  • Maryland scored the first goal of the night to take a 1-0 lead in the second quarter. Margot Lawn caused a turnover and drove the ball towards the cage. Maci Bradford collected a pass and set a shot from the top of the circle, where Hope Rose with her back to the keeper, deflected the ball between her legs and through the legs of Iowa's goalie. 
  • Sammy Popper extended the lead halfway through the third quarter with a rocket shot that deflected off the Iowa defender's stick and past the right shoulder of the keeper.
