EAST LANSING, MI — The University of Maryland volleyball team came up short in the first of their two games in the state of Michigan, falling to Michigan State 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 22-25) on the road Friday night at the Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing, MI.

The Terps were led by eight kills from Samantha Schnitta as well as 21-assist, 10-dig performance from Sydney Dowler.

The Spartans swung for a .167 clip in the match. Michigan State was led on defense by libero Nalani Iosia, who produced 17 digs.

The Terps fall to 15-10 on the season with a 5-8 Big Ten record, while the Spartans' record is boosted to 15-9 with a 7-6 conference mark.

How It Happened

Set 1: Michigan State 25 - Maryland 14

The Terps jumped out to a 5-2 lead with kills from Eva Rohrbach and Anastasia Russ.
Five swings resulted in five kills for Maryland as the Terps built an 8-6 edge.
Michigan State rebounded with a 7-0 run to build a 13-8 lead.
After the Terps broke serve, the Spartans added another 4-0 run to push the advantage to 17-9.
Maryland took three of the next four rallies, but another Spartan run featuring a pair of Rachel Muisenga service aces put Michigan State on the verge of set victory.
Michigan State hit .370 in the frame, as Amani McArthur notched five kills in the set.

Set 2: Michigan State 25 - Maryland 18

The Terps reversed their fortunes early in the second frame, opening on a 6-0 run bolstered by a pair of Eva Rohrbach rejections.
With a pair of Rachel Muisenga service aces, the Spartans got back in the frame with a 6-0 run, tying the set at 9-9.
Michigan State took its first lead of the set with a service ace at 11-10.
The lead extended to 16-10 for the Spartans on a 7-0 scoring stretch.
The closest Maryland came to cutting the deficit was four points for the remainder of the stanza.
