COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland wrestling landed four individuals as top-nine pre-seeds in the 2023 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
The complete tournament brackets and official seeds will be released Friday afternoon following the Big Ten Conference coaches meeting. For more information on the 2023 Big Ten Wrestling Championships visit bigten.org.
The Terps' pre-seeds are highlighted by a trio of redshirt freshman in
Jaxon Smith (No. 6 at 197),
Braxton Brown (No. 8 at 125) and
Ethen Miller (No. 8 at 149) who are all set to make their Big Ten Championship debuts. Veteran
Jaron Smith, wrestling at heavyweight for the first time, is seeded No. 9.
The conference championship gets underway Saturday, March 4 at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan and will run through Sunday, March 5.
All 14 conference schools will participate in the championships with the first-round, quarterfinal, semifinal and wrestleback matches taking place during Sessions I and II Saturday. Action continues Sunday with consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches getting underway during Session III and the first-, third- and fifth-place matches highlighting Session IV.
