TULSA, OK -- Maryland wrestling wrapped up its 2022-23 season and its time at the 2023 NCAA Championships on Friday evening.
Jaxon Smith entered the day a win away from achieving All-American status, but fell in two hard-fought bouts, first to No. 3 Rocky Elam and later to No. 9 Max Dean.
Braxton Brown, Kal Miller, Ethen Miller and Jaron Smith each competed Saturday morning after pushing through to the second day yesterday. However, none of them were able to advance in the wrestlebacks, bringing impressive seasons for all of them to a close. For Jaron, it was the end of an illustrious career spanning eight years and two different coaching regimes.
The five wrestlers that competed on Friday marked the highest number of wrestlers still alive on Day Two of the NCAA Championships since 2010. Maryland finished with 7.5 points, the most since 2019.
