COLLEGE PARK, MD – University of Maryland Athletics will unveil a new state-of-the-art LED lighting system at SECU Stadium this season.
Provided by Musco Lighting, the custom-designed Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system will provide clean, elevated light levels on the field, and is equipped with color-changing lights and a variety of Show-Light Pro Venue® special effects features.
"As we continue to invest in our facilities and athletic programs at Maryland, we are excited to introduce a new, state-of-the-art lighting system at SECU Stadium debuting this fall for Terp football," said Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "These lights will enhance the entire game experience including increased visibility for the players and fans alike along with energizing special effects technology for our games."
Â
Choreographed LED lighting sequences will be added to key moments during home games at SECU Stadium. These moments will include the team's intro sequence prior to kickoff, key in-game situations (i.e. Maryland touchdowns, defensive takeaways, etc.), and in conjunction with other special elements during commercial timeouts.
Maryland Athletics has developed a deep relationship with Musco, which previously provided lighting solutions for Maryland Softball Stadium, Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium, the XFINITY Center and Ludwig Field.
The Terps, who are coming off back-to-back winning seasons, will play their first three games of the 2023 season at home. Maryland will welcome Towson to SECU Stadium on September 2 for a 3:30 p.m. kick on Big Ten Network. The new lighting system will then be prominently featured the following two weeks as the Terps have nationally-televised night games against Charlotte (Sept. 9 / 7:30 p.m. on NBC) and Virginia (Sept. 15 / 7 p.m. on FS1).
