COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2023-24 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week is
Liz Beardsley of the women's soccer team.
Liz Beardsley got her 2023 season off to a strong start. Beardsley picked up four saves in goal in her Maryland debut, helping lead the Terps to a 0-0 draw against American on the road. This was the first clean sheet of the year for the Terrapins, and marks only the third clean sheet for the Terps in their last ten season-opening games. The draw also brought the Terps unbeaten streak in season openers to seven (4-0-3). Beardsley also had three saves in Maryland's 1-0 road loss to Florida on Sunday, August 20. During the opening week of the 2023 season, Beardsley got a total of seven stops for a save percentage of .875 and a Goals Against Average (GAA) of .500.
A transfer from Georgia, Beardsley brings a high caliber of athleticism and leadership to the Terrapins. Beardsley played in 15 matches with the Bulldogs and started 14. She accumulated a record of 8-5-1 in her starts and stopped 34 shots in 2022. Beardsley allowed only 12 goals during the 2022 season, which was the third fewest by a Georgia goalkeeper and tallied a 0.89 GAA and a .739 save percentage. Beardsley kept six clean sheets during the 2022 season, including five-consecutive to end non-conference play.
An Exercise Science Major, Beardsley was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll during her freshman campaign in 2021.
The Terrapins are back in action on Thursday, August 24, when they host Navy at Ludwig Field in their 2023 home opener. Kickoff for the match is at 6:00 p.m.
