COLLEGE PARK, MDÂ -Â Maryland is back at home for its second match of the year at Ludwig Field as they take on Towson on Sept. 3. The match will kickoff at 1 PM and will air on
B1G+.
This will be the first time since 2012 that the Terrapins and the Tigers have met, when the Terps won 5-0. The Terps are coming off a 0-0 draw on the road against VCU. It was a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to break down the back line of either team.

Series History -Â Towson
- Maryland and Towson have met eight times in the series. Maryland holds the advantage over Towson, with the Terrapins holding an all-time record of 6-0-2 in the matchup.
- The last meeting between the two opponents came in 2012, with Maryland picking up a 5-0 win. Olivia Wagner led the Terps with two goals and an assist in the 2012 meeting. Ashley Spivey, Becky Kaplan, and Hayley Brock also got on the scoresheet for the Terps during the match. Maryland had an overwhelming advantage in shots, with the Terrapins firing 24 shots to Towson's five.Â

Last Time Out
- The Terrapins played their second-consecutive match in Virginia as they battled the VCU Rams on Aug. 31. This was the Terrapins' fourth road game of the season to start the year. It was a defensive battle, as neither team was able to break the others back line, with the match ending in a 0-0 draw. Maryland once again had the advantage on shots, with a total of 14 shots to VCU's 10. The Terps had a couple of crucial chances in the second half in the attacking third, but either couldn't direct their shots on target or had them batted away by the Rams' keeper. This was the second shutout for the Terps this season, and their first since its 0-0 draw in the season opener against American.
Lisa McIntyre had a couple of opportunities to push Maryland ahead in the 0-0 draw against VCU, but couldn't get the deciding goal to push Maryland ahead.

- Maryland continues to create great chances to get opportunities on goal. After its match against VCU, Maryland has out shot its opponent in its last three games.
- Maryland has out shot its opponents by a total of 56-45 through its first five games. In its last three games, Maryland has out shot its opponents 46-24, evidence of its chance creation over its last three games.
- Maryland is led in shots by the duo of Lisa McIntyre and Madison Krakower, who both have 12 on the season. Close behind them is Peyton Bernard, who has 10 through five games. All three players are freshmen, as the team has been able to incorporate its no. 11-ranked recruiting class into the fold.

Experience All Around the Squad
- While the Terrapins have been trying to incorporate a lot of younger players into the squad, the coaches have relied on veteran players to help bring those young players along.
- In defense, Maryland has three players that have played at least 40 games in their career. Centerback Katie Coyle has played in 45 games in her three-year collegiate career. Eden White and Caroline Koutsos have both played in over 60 games in college. White, a transfer centerback from Santa Clara, has played in 65 games in her career. Koutsos also brings a strong veteran presence, with the UMBC transfer having played in 64 games in her career.
- In midfield, Catherine DeRosa has played in 51 games and logged over 3,000 minutes. DeRosa has spent her entire career in College Park, and has brought invaluable leadership to the team. Sydney Urban has also offered a veteran presence to the team, with the senior having played 58 games and logging over 3500 minutes of game action. Urban is in her second year at Maryland after transferring in from Florida ahead of the 2022 season. Lauren Wrigley is a newcomer to the group, but she has brought her own high-level D1 experience to the squad. The UNC transfer has played in 36 games in college, and has helped a talented group of young midfielders get acclimated to the college game.
- Up front, Kat Parris brings 44 games of Division I experience to the Terrapins attack. The Silver Spring native transferred in from Radford before the season, and has played over 2700 minutes in college.
Senior transfer
Eden White has been an important piece to the puzzle of Maryland's defense. Her experience is crucial for a team working in a lot of new players into the lineup. White's 65 games offer a lot of Division I experience to a team trying to incorporate a large freshman class into the fold
Scouting the Tigers
- Towson enters this matchup with a 4-0-0 record after defeating UMBC 8-1. Jasmine Hamid led the Tigers with four goals in the match and Phoebe Canoles who picked up a brace. Canoles also picked up three assists in the match, while Nia Christopher got two.Â
- Hamid leads the Tigers with 6 goals and 12 points through their first four matches. Canoles has lit up the stat sheet, coming into the matchup with four goals and three assists. Nia Christopher leads the team in assists with five this year, while also scoring two goals for the Tigers as well.
- In goal the Tigers are led by senior Riley Melendez. Melendez is allowing a GAA of 0.52 through four games while picking up 10 saves. Melendez has only allowed two goals so far this season, and has a save percentage of 0.833.
- Towson ranks in the top 25 in a number of categories. Its 14 goals so far this season checks in as the 25th-most in the country, while their 17 assists are the eighth-most in the nation. The Tigers come into the match with a 3.50 scoring offense, which is the 15th-best in the nation, while their 4.25 assists per game rank fourth.
Freshman Playing Key Roles in Squad
- Maryland has gotten a lot of action from its No. 11 overall recruiting class, with many of the freshmen playing key roles for the Terps in the starting 11 and off the bench.
- Of the five goals that have been scored by the Terrapins so far this season, three have been scored by freshmen. Madison Krakower scored her first collegiate goal in Maryland's match against Navy. Lisa McIntyre scored two goals against James Madison, getting both her first collegiate goals and her first collegiate brace.
- All three of Maryland's assists have also come from freshmen. Peyton Bernard has picked up an assist in consecutive games. Lisa McIntyre got an assist on Maryland's second goal in its game against Navy.
- Kennedy Bell has played every minute in defense for the Terrapins through their first five games. Bell has been key in Maryland's back line, while also helping in build up play in the attack.
- Isabel DiPrima has also been a key contributor for the Terps through five games. DiPrima's insertion into the starting lineup also coincides with the improvement in the offense over the last three games. Hannah Schapiro is another freshman midfielder who has gotten early playing time. Schapiro has played in four games with one start for the Terrapins this season in the defensive midfielder role to assist the back line.
Kennedy Bell has been an important member in the Maryland defense. The freshman has not left the field, playing the full 90 minutes in all five games this season. The Charlotte, North Carolina native has adjusted well to the collegiate game and has been crucial to the team's performance.
