COLLEGE PARK - Each week during the 2023-24 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week is Ava Morales of the Maryland Women's Soccer team. This comes after Morales scored a pair of goals to help lead the Terps to a 2-0 week.
Morales scored her first goal of the week in Maryland's 2-0 win over George Mason. Morales scored a long shot that flew into the top right corner of goal just out of the reach of the goalkeeper. Morales also scored the game-winning goal for Maryland in its 1-0 win over Binghamton. After a Binghamton handball, Morales stepped to the penalty spot in the 82nd minute and calmly put it away to give the Terps the 1-0 lead. Morales has now scored a goal in three consecutive games, becoming the first Maryland Women's Soccer player to accomplish this feat since Chelsea Jackson in 2016.
The sophomore from Clarksville, MD leads the Terrapins with three goals this season and has five in her career. Morales currently ranks in the top-30 nationally in game-winning goals in 2023 with two. Morales is the second women's soccer student-athlete to be named Terp of the Week, with goalkeeper Liz Beardsley receiving the first Terp of the Week honor of the 2023-24 season.
The Terps are back in action on Friday, Sept. 15 as they begin Big Ten play on the road against Penn State at 6 PM.
