COLLEGE PARK, MD - Each week during the 2023-24 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week. 

This week's Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week is senior libero Lilly Gunter of the Maryland volleyball team. Gunter played a vital role for Maryland's undefeated weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic, leading the Terps in digs in all three contests against Le Moyne, FAU and Florida Gulf Coast. Across the three matches, the senior libero averaged 3.91 digs per set.

In a rout of Le Moyne on Friday, Gunter picked up nine digs in just three sets as Maryland allowed an opponent hitting percentage of -.080, the lowest clip permitted since Adam Hughes took over as head coach in 2018.

The following afternoon against FAU, Gunter secured a team-best 14 digs in three sets (4.67 per set) as the Terps swept their fourth consecutive match for the first time since 2021.

In the weekend finale against Florida Gulf Coast, Gunter starred defensively for Maryland with 20 digs in a five-set thriller, marking the most digs she has recorded in a Maryland uniform. In the fourth set alone, the Oviedo, FL product recorded 10 digs as the Eagles were held to a .028 hitting percentage in the frame. During the deciding fifth set, Gunter recorded three digs to only allow a -.056 hitting percentage in the final stanza as Maryland knocked off the reigning ASUN champions.

The Terps begin Big Ten play this weekend with a pair of home matches at the XFINITY Center Pavilion, where Maryland will face No. 17 Purdue Friday night at 7 p.m. and Michigan Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+.
