Kennedy Bell Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland's Kennedy Bell earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, in an announcement from the conference on Tuesday. Bell assisted the game-winning goal in Maryland's match against Towson, leading to its first win of the season. This is the second year in a row that a Maryland defender has earned this award, with Tahirah Turnage receiving the honor in 2022.

Kennedy Bell Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Bell went the full 90 minutes in both matches this week for the Terrapins and was a part of the defense that earned two clean sheets on the week. In the 52nd minute of Maryland's match against Towson, Bell raced down the left wing and was able to get around a Towson defender from just outside the box. Bell then delivered a ball to midfielder Ava Morales, who slotted the ball past the keeper to give the Terps a 1-0 lead they wouldn't relinquish. In defense, Bell helped lead the Terps to its second clean sheet of the week, while the defense only allowed three shots on goal from the Towson offense. Bell was also on the field for Maryland's other clean sheet on the week against VCU, where the defense again only allowed three shots on goal by the opposing team.

The Terrapins are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 7 as they host George Mason in their second consecutive match at Ludwig Field.
