COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland wrestling captured its first Big Ten win of the season in dominant fashion on Sunday at XFINITY Center Pavilion. The Terps beat Northwestern, 29-15, for their most points scored in a victory during a conference match.
The Terps (3-2, 1-1 B1G) won six of 10 bouts, including five by bonus points to secure the big win.
The win was the most points scored in a Big Ten match since the Terps joined the conference in the 2014-15 season. Before that, the most points came when Maryland took down Michigan State 26-10 on Jan. 10, 2016 for its first ever Big Ten Dual victory.
The Terps received three wins by technical fall from No. 19 Braxton Brown, No. 14 Kal Miller and No. 17 Ethen Miller and a pin from No. 32 Michael North. Brown and the Miller brothers wrecked their opponents and didn't allow them to score any offensive points. North upset No. 13 Trevor Chumbley and the Pavilion erupted as Maryland had all the momentum heading into intermission.
Dominic Solis kept the Terps momentum alive with an unrivaled comeback win in the final period. He was down 3-0 but had an escape, a takedown and two back points all in the third period to to secure a 6-3 decision.
Another technical fall win at 197 by
Jaxon Smith secured the Terps' win.
Maryland cruised to its third Big Ten win since joining the conference in 2014.
Northwestern (0-2, 0-1 B1G) drops its first conference match of the season.
