COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland volleyball was defeated by No. 11 Purdue in consecutive sets (23-25, 20-25, 20-25) on Friday at the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The Terps are now 10-12 overall and 1-10 in Big Ten play.

The Terps narrowly lost set one despite hitting nearly .300 as a team and holding an edge in kills and blocks. Samantha Schnitta tallied five kills, two aces and two digs in the set alone. The Boilermakers took the following two sets despite solid performances from several Terps.

Schnitta finished just short of a double-double with nine kills, 12 digs and three aces. She now has 61 aces, which lead the nation.

Freshman Katherine Scherer recorded her best performance of her young career. She set a new career high with seven kills, adding four digs and a block.

Sam Csire (10 kills, seven digs and blocks) and Eva Rohrbach (nine kills and two digs) were other standout performers.

Ally Williams (11) and Lilly Gunter (eight) combined for 19 digs. Sydney Dowler (18) and Zoe Huang (14) combined for 32 assists.

All of Purdue's losses have come against top 10 teams this season. They improved to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

Breaking Down The Action

Set 1: Purdue 25 Maryland 23

A kill by Jonna Spohn gave the Terps an early 6-5 lead.
Three consecutive scores by Purdue gave them a 9-7 lead.
An ace by Samantha Schnitta tied the set at nine apiece.
The Boilermakers scored four consecutive points, but the kills by Sam Csire and Sydney Dowler and an attack error caused the Terps to trail 14-13.
A kill by Csire tied the set at 19, but Purdue drew a service error and recorded an ace to lead 21-19.
Back-to-back kills by Schnitta brought the Terps within one at 24-23. However, Purdue earned the set win with a kill out of a timeout.

Set 2: Purdue 25 Maryland 20

Purdue opened set two on a 3-0 run.
The Boilermakers led 11-6 after a 5-2 run, forcing a timeout by the Terps.
Kills by Schnitta, Cire and Eva Rohrbach, an attack error and an ace by Schnitta tied the set at 11. Purdue called a timeout.
The Terps took the lead with a kill by Rohrbach, but Purdue re-took the lead with three consecutive scores.
The Boilermakers closed out the set with a kill.

Set 3: Purdue 25 Maryland 20

Purdue opened the third set trailing 3-1.
A kill by Rohrbach tied the set at 10 apiece.
The Terps took a 13-12 lead after a kill by Katherine Scherer.
Maryland took a timeout down 21-19.
The Boilermakers scored the match point with a service ace.
