COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's soccer head coach
Sasho Cirovski announced the program's 2024 schedule, featuring non-conference home matches with Georgetown and Virginia, and Big Ten home tilts with Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State and conference newcomer UCLA.
"Our goal in building our schedule every season is to play the best competition possible to prepare us for the postseason, and this schedule accomplishes that goal," Cirovski said. "I am excited to once again see our players take the field in front of The Crew and our community. We have the best fans in college soccer and I can't wait to see you all in August."
The Terps open the season just up the road at UMBC on Thursday, Aug. 22 before the home opener against Georgetown on Sunday, Aug. 25. The first Friday Night Lights match of the season at Ludwig Field takes place Aug. 30 against Detroit.
Maryland will renew the greatest rivalry in college soccer against Virginia at Ludwig Field on Monday, Sept 2. The six-match homestand continues with matches against Brown (Sept. 6) and San Diego State (Sept. 9) before the Big Ten home opener with Wisconsin on Sept. 13.
A two-game road swing ends September as the Terps face off with Indiana (Sept. 20) and Northwestern (Sept. 27). The Terps then play host to a pair of Big Ten contests versus Penn State (Oct. 1) and Michigan State (Oct. 5).
Maryland makes their first trip to face Washington as Big Ten opponents on Oct. 11. The Terps then head out of conference to take on George Mason at Ludwig Field on Oct. 15.
The Terps and Huskies have played twice in history, splitting a home-and-home series. The Terps won 1-0 at Ludwig Field in 2015 before Washington claimed a 2-0 victory in Seattle in 2018, a season in which Maryland captured the national championship. The Huskies have been to the NCAA Tournament eight times since 2012, including a national runner-up finish in 2021. Teams appearing on Maryland's schedule have appeared in four of the last five national titles games after the Terps won the title in 2018.
The Terps renew their rivalry with UCLA as conference foes for the first time on Oct. 21 at Ludwig Field. Back-to-back road conference matches follow at Michigan (Oct. 25) and at Rutgers (Oct. 29).
Maryland has faced UCLA 13 times since 2001, with the Terps leading the series 6-5-2, including a 4-2-1 record at Ludwig Field. Two of the top five crowds in Ludwig Field history have involved the Bruins, and the programs have combined for eight national titles.
The Terps' regular season finale will be Nov. 3 at Ludwig Field against Ohio State.
Game times are subject to change and television designations will be announced at a later date.
The 2024 Terps will feature seven returning starters including team captain Alex Nitzl and 2023 Second Team All-Big Ten selection William Kulvik. The squad will also include 11 newcomers.
