Another Record-Setting Academic Performance For Maryland Student-Athletes In Spring 2024 Semester

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland Athletics programs once again performed at outstanding levels in the classroom in a record-setting Spring 2024 semester. Maryland set a school record for highest departmental cumulative GPA following a semester with 3.262 with all of Maryland's teams combining for a 3.274 semester GPA. This marks the ninth semester in a row with a GPA of better than 3.000. The strong academic performance marks the 16th consecutive semester with a better than 3.000 cumulative GPA. A total of 18 Maryland programs have a cumulative GPA of better than a 3.000 and 17 of them had better than a 3.000 for the Spring 2024 semester. 

It was a standout semester as 37 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.000 GPA and 149 earned Dean's List recognition, boasting a 3.500 GPA or better. Overall, 348 student-athletes achieved Athletic Honor Roll status for posting a 3.000 or better GPA. 

"Once again, our Terps continue to stand out on and off the field as shown by a record-setting Spring 2024 semester in the classroom," said Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "I am so proud of our student-athletes performing at such a high level in their academics. We continue to be inspired by their dedication to their studies while competing with their athletic programs. Our GSAC staff is to be celebrated as well for their commitment to education and fostering the consummate student experience. This is a time to celebrate our student-athletes, we are so proud of them."


"The academic achievements of Terrapin student-athletes this spring semester is remarkable", said Brady Rourke, Director, Gossett Student-Athlete Center. "Our GSAC team worked tirelessly to structure academic schedules and resources to ensure student-athletes could perform at their peak. Collaboration with academic units and communication with campus colleagues is ever more important given athletic travel schedules. Our GSAC team is grateful for the support and collaboration of the Athletics Council, especially Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Dr. Brad Hatfield. GSAC tutorial services and learning support services provided comprehensive support to assist students in balancing athletics competition while earning impressive academic marks; as evidenced by high numbers of Dean's List and Honor Roll recipients. The overall cumulative department GPA of 3.261 is the highest ever recorded and reflects the all-embracing dedication to academic excellence."

Of the 18 programs posting a semester GPA of greater than 3.000, the gymnastics team with a 3.693 GPA. Of the 17 programs with a cumulative GPA of greater than 3.000, the gymnastics team was also tops with a 3.630 GPA.

Gymnastics had nine team members with a perfect 4.0, the most for any program, followed by seven women's lacrosse players.

Eight programs had double-figure members of the Dean's List: women's track and field (18), women's lacrosse (16), football (14), gymnastics (14), women's soccer (13), field hockey (12), men's track and field (11) and cross country (10). Fourteen programs had at least 10 team members on the Honor Roll: football (36), women's track & field (35), women's soccer (34), men's lacrosse (32), women's lacrosse (29), cross country (23), wrestling (21), men's track & field (20), gymnastics (19), field hockey (17), men's soccer (17), softball (16), baseball (15), volleyball (11). 

Maryland
celebrated 114 student-athlete graduates this spring, and the Big Ten honored 118 Terrapins, who earned Academic All-Big Ten during the spring term.
