
Terps Drop Matchup With American, 2-0

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland women's soccer was defeated by American, 2-0, at Ludwig Field on Aug. 22.
Maryland (1-1-1) was unable to score on its four shots on goal. The Terps defense excelled by holding a first-half shutout. However, In the second half, American (1-1-1) scored back-to-back goals four minutes apart in the 58th and 62nd minute from Brooke Steel and Izzy Kadzban.
Senior goalkeeper Liz Beardsley finished with four saves. She now has 16 saves through three games this season.

"I thought we created enough opportunities to put the ball on the back of the net," head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer said. "We were unfortunate with not being able to do that. ... I know that we have goal scorers. Today just wasn't our night, but I'm looking forward to how we respond on Sunday."

- Liz Beardsley snatched an early shot on goal out of the air by American in the 10th minute.
- Emily Lenhard put a pass just ahead of Peyton Bernard in the box that the American goalkeeper disrupted. Ava Morales followed up with a shot to low center that was saved in the 27th minute.
- In the 41st minute, Delaney DeMartino had a prime opportunity to put Maryland ahead but sailed a shot wide right on the breakaway due to an errored pass on a throw-in by the Eagles goalie.
- Kennedy Bell made a nice move to get a clear path to the goal but was stuffed by the American goalkeeper, who moved out of the box for the stop in the 49th minute.
- American scored the first goal of the game in the 58th minute.
- Four minutes later, American added insurance with its second goal in the second half to lead 2-0.
- 0: The Terps held a first half shutout.
- 16: Through three games, goalkeeper Liz Beardsley has 16 saves.
- The Terps return to Ludwig Field for a matchup against James Madison on Aug. 25. The game starts at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
