COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland (4–2, 1–2 Big Ten) heads west to face UCLA (2–4, 2–1 Big Ten) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT at the Rose Bowl, airing on FS1 and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
Maryland-UCLA Series History
  • Maryland and UCLA will play for the first time since a home-and-home series in 1954 and 1955. This will be Maryland's first-ever visit to the Rose Bowl.
  • The first meeting between the teams came on Oct. 1, 1954 when No. 4 UCLA beat the defending National Champion, No. 6 Maryland, 12-7 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
  • The following year in College Park, No. 6 Maryland beat No. 1 UCLA, 7-0 on Sept. 24, 1955. Halfback Ed Vereb scored the game's only touchdown on the opening series of the second half on a 17-yard run on 4th-and-1. Maryland held UCLA to minus-21 rushing yards in the game. That was the Terps' last win over the top-ranked team in the nation

Among the best in the Big Ten and Nationally
  • Maryland leads the FBS in turnover margin with a +10 differential, forcing 13 turnovers while committing only three on offense.
  • The Terps' defense ranks second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally in sacks, averaging 3.33 per game.
  • Maryland's red zone defense has been among the most effective in the country, ranking third in the Big Ten and 17th nationally with a .722 opponent success rate.
  • On third down, the Terps are holding opponents to just a 29.5% conversion rate, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten and 17th in the FBS.
  • Maryland's secondary has been dominant, leading both the Big Ten and the nation with 12 interceptions through six games.
  • The Terps' offensive line has allowed just three sacks this season, the second fewest in the Big Ten behind only top-ranked Ohio State (2).
  • Maryland is one of only two Big Ten teams that have yet to allow a score on an opponent's opening drive (Nebraska).

MALIK Washington Off to Historic Start
  • Malik Washington is one of four Power Conference True Freshman QBs with 200+ passing yards in each of his first six career games since 2000. He's joined by Philip Rivers (NC State, 2000), Sam Ehlinger (Texas, 2017) and Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (Cal, 2025)
  • Washington's 137 completions through six-career games are the most by a true freshman quarterback since Mississippi State's Will Rogers in 2020. This mark also places him fourth in the Big Ten currently this season.
  • Washington's 1,506 passing yards through six-career games rank third-most among true freshman quarterbacks since 2019 (Jayden Daniels had 1,610 at Arizona State, Sam Howell had 1,544 for UNC).
  • Washington's 10 passing touchdowns through six-career games are tied for third-most among true freshman quarterbacks since 2019. Only Sam Howell (15 in 2019) and Caleb Williams (14 for OU in 2021) had more.
  • Washington is currently second in the country in total touchdowns amoung true freshman, with 13 total. He trails only BYU's Bear Bachmeier who has 15.
  • Washington has thrown at least one passing touchdown in all six games this season. That is the longest streak to begin a career by any Maryland QB over the last 30 seasons.

  • Maryland leads the country with 12 interceptions on the year and interception yardage with 282.
  • Maryland has three pick-sixes this season, its most in a season since 2018.
  • Dontay Joyner (vs. Nebraska), LaKhi Roland (vs. Towson) and Daniel Wingate (vs. FAU) account for Maryland's three pick-sixes
  • Joyner's pick-six against Nebraska was Maryland's first in a Big Ten game since 2018 when RaVon Davis accomplished the feat against Ohio State. It is also already tied for the Terps' second-most interception return touchdowns in a single season over the last 30 years (2010, four).
  • Maryland is one of four teams in the nation with three pick-sixes this season along with Louisiana Tech, Oregon and SMU.

Defensive Dominance
  • Maryland leads the FBS with a +10 turnover differential. The Terps have forced 13 opponent turnovers, while only committing three turnovers.
  • Maryland is one of seven FBS teams to not allow a single point off its giveaways this season (Arizona State, Boise State, UConn, Miami-FL, San Diego State and Temple)
  • Maryland has also not allowed its opponent to score on its first drive of the game this season.
  • The Terps are one of just three Big Ten teams to have kept its opponents off the scoreboard on its first drive of the game (Nebraska & Minnesota).
  • Senior linebacker Daniel Wingate is a large part of the defense's success as he leads the team and is second in the Big Ten with 56 tackles this season.

  • Maryland has 20 sacks on the season. The number ranks second in the Big Ten and seventh in the FBS.
  • Maryland is averaging 3.33 sacks per game this season after averaging 1.17 per contest in 2024. This improvement of 2.16 sacks per game from last season to this season is the second largest of any FBS team (Western Michigan, +2.54).
  • Freshmen Zahir Mathis and Sidney Stewart have each recorded at least half a sack in five of Maryland's six games this season.
