Late Buckeyes Goals Leads to 3-1 Win Over Maryland

Faith Luckey and Maya Cheeseboro made 12 combined saves on Sunday, but the Buckeyes escaped College Park with a win.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Ohio State came to town on Sunday with six draws already under its belt in 2025 and it looked like another was imminent at Ludwig Field on Sunday, but a pair of late Buckeyes (8-2-6, 4-1-5 Big Ten) goals earned them a 3-1 road win over the Terps (6-11, 2-8 Big Ten).

The Terps waited 30 minutes to record their first shot, but once Kelsey Smith got an opportunity to strike, she made it count, blasting her team-leading sixth goal into the back of the net to give Maryland a 1-0 advantage as Lisa McIntyre picked up her third assist of the season. Smith's goal gave the Terps their first halftime lead since Oct. 5. It wasn't an advantage that would last long, however, as Ohio State's Elle Britt evened the match with a goal in the 48th minute.

Under nine minutes from another draw, the Buckeyes' offense came alive, scoring twice in a span of 36 seconds to pull ahead late and capture the 3-1 win.

Maya Cheeseboro saw her first action as goalkeeper in the second half for Maryland. The Boston College transfer made a remarkable nine saves in the second half in her first minutes as a Terp. She and starter Faith Luckey combined for 12 saves in the loss. The Terps have one final match on the season slate to earn some points in the Big Ten Standings.
