No. 1 Maryland Falls 2-0 to Fourth-Seeded Bruins In Big Ten Tournament Semifinals

The Terps were defeated for the first time all season on Wednesday and will find out their NCAA Tournament seeding on Monday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The top-ranked and No.1-seeded Terps fell 2-0 to No. 4-seeded UCLA at Ludwig Field in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday night. A pair of late goals from the Bruins (7-6-4, 5-3-2 Big Ten) proved to be the difference as Maryland (12-1-3, 8-0-2 Big Ten) lost its first match of the season.

The Terps still maintain an impressive record and resume and will await to find out their postseason fate. The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship selection show will air on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

The first 73 minutes of the match looked highly reminiscent of Maryland's 0–0 draw with the Bruins from the 2025 regular season, but UCLA broke through in the 74th minute on Ander Marticorena's first goal of the season. Sergi Solans scored in the 84th minute and the Bruins held on for the 2-0 win.

The Terps outshot the Bruins 16-10 in front of 4,876 fans in a packed Ludwig Field. The Bruins will play the No. 3-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game on Sunday after they handed No. 2 Washington a 2-0 loss in Wednesday's first semifinal. How It Happened:
  • Stephane Njike booted the night's first shot in the fifth minute. 
  • UCLA was awarded the match' first corner in the 11th minute, but Maryland turned the scoring opportunity away without allowing a shot. 
  • The Bruins' first shot missed wide in the 12th minute.
  • Sadam Masereka had a shot blocked in the 21st minute and UCLA's Kevin Box made the night's first save on Masereka's rebound chance.
  • Leon Koehl recorded Maryland's fifth shot in the 27th minute.
  • UCLA's Schinieder Mimy earned a yellow card in the 32nd minute. 
  • The Terps defended another Bruins' corner in the 33rd minute.
  • Maryland outshot UCLA 7-2 in the scoreless first half. 
  • Box made a diving stop on an Njike shot in the 56th minute and another on Luca Costabile in the 57th minute. 
  • UCLA's Marticorena was given a yellow card in the 59th minute.
  • Maryland was awarded a corner in the 68th minute. 
  • UCLA scored in the 74th minute on Marticorena's first goal of the season.
  • Maryland was unable to score on a corner in the 78th minute.
