Clemsen Signs Four Transfers for the 2026-27 Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland wrestling head coach Alex Clemsen announced the signings of transfers Carson Thomas, Nicolar Rivera, Julian George, and Latrell Schafer for the 2026–27 season.

Before Maryland:  Redshirted his freshman year at Indiana. Standout at La Salle High School, where he eclipsed 100 wins in just three years of competition. Did not compete for La Salle during his senior year, instead training and competing in collegiate open events. Placed second at the Greyhound Open and fourth at the Purple Raider Open. Competed for the Spatola club team. 2024 Ohio State Champion and 2023 Ohio State runner-up. Earned third place at Fargo in 2024 and fourth in 2023. 2024 Super 32 Champion. Took third place at the 2024 Escape the Rock tournament. Contributed to two top-six state team finishes while at La Salle. Ranked No. 35 overall in the class of 2025 by MatScouts and considered the No. 4 wrestler at 197 lbs. in the class.

2025–26 (Redshirt Junior at Wisconsin): Posted a 19–12 overall record and 14–4 mark in duals, including 5–3 in Big Ten competition. Went 5–5 in tournament action with three technical falls and five major decisions. NCAA qualifier, finishing 10th at 125 pounds at the Big Ten Championships.

2024–25 (Redshirt Sophomore at Wisconsin): Compiled a 24–7 overall record with a 17–3 regular season mark and 5–3 in Big Ten duals. Started every dual at 125 pounds for Wisconsin. Placed fourth at the Big Ten Championships with a 4–2 record and went 3–2 at the NCAA Championships. Won the Michigan State Open and earned Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA Scholar All-American honors.

2023–24 (Redshirt Freshman at Wisconsin): Won the Freshman/Sophomore division at the Michigan State Open, going 4–0 with two technical falls, one major decision and one decision.

2022–23 (Freshman at Wisconsin): Competed at 133 pounds, finishing 8–7 overall. Wrestled in four tournaments, placing second at the Don Parker Open and fifth at the Last Chance Open. Went 4–7 against NCAA opponents and 1–3 versus Big Ten competition. Appeared in one dual for Wisconsin.

High School: Three-time undefeated Wisconsin state champion. Named Sportsperson of the Year by the Madison Sports Hall of Fame Club and Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Cheesehead Invitational.

At Wisconsin: In 2025–26, posted a 1–2 record with a 1–0 mark in dual competition. Did not compete during the 2024–25 season but was named Academic All-Big Ten. As a freshman in 2023–24, went 1–3 while facing top-ranked competition, including a dual appearance against Ridge Lovett, and recorded a 19–3 technical fall over Northwestern's Kai Neumark at the Midlands Championships. Redshirted during the 2022–23 season.

High School: Compiled a 123–18 career record at Christian Brothers Academy (NJ). Three-time New Jersey state placewinner and regional champion. Won the 2023 Shore Conference title at 144 pounds and was a 2022 New Jersey state finalist. Earned All-American honors at the 2022 Super 32 (8th place) and finished runner-up at the 2022 Journeyman Classic. Placed third at the Beast of the East tournament in both 2021 and 2022 and won a Super Region title in 2021.

At NC State: Redshirt freshman in 2025–26, competing primarily at 157 pounds and moving up to 174 late in the season. Finished 9–7 overall with six bonus-point wins (three falls, two technical falls and one major decision). Placed second at the Southeast Open (freshman/sophomore division) and fifth at the Patriot Last Chance Open, while also competing at the Mountaineer Open. Redshirted during the 2024–25 season, posting an 8–3 record in attached matches across six tournaments. Won the Wildcat Open at 157 pounds and earned ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition.

High School: 2024 Georgia state champion. Ranked No. 30 overall by MatScouts and No. 92 by FloWrestling.
