COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland wrestling (4–1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 16 Pitt (6–2), 35–3, Sunday at home.
The Panthers jumped out early as Abram Cline dropped a 9–0 major decision to Tyler Chappell at 125. Maryland answered at 133 when Braxton Brown earned a 4–1 decision over Evan Tallmadge, cutting the deficit to one. Pitt regained momentum at 141, as Dario Lemus fell 8–5 in sudden victory to Briar Priest, making the score 7–3.
Ryan Kennedy made his collegiate dual debut at 149, narrowly falling 2–1 to Kade Brown. Pitt extended its lead with a 19–4 technical fall by Dylan Evans over Mekhi Neal at 157, followed by a 9–7 decision win by Jared Keslar over Alex Uryniak at 165.
The Panthers continued to add points down the stretch, as Luca Augustine (174), Chase Kraniz (184), Mac Stout (197), and Dayton Pitzer (HWT) all earned wins over the Terps to close out the 35–3 victory.
Maryland returns to action January 3–4 at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
