COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland field hockey head coach Missy Meharg welcomes Will Holt to her staff as an assistant coach and director of high performance for field hockey on Friday.
Holt comes to College Park with 16 years of experience with Team USA scoring 85 career goals. Holt will head up Maryland's attack unit. "His experience playing professionally in four different countries brings invaluable knowledge to our team, especially those aspiring to compete internationally," Meharg said. "Having coached in the NCAA, in both the ACC and Big Ten, while holding degrees in sports science and athletic administration. Will understands today's NCAA competitive landscape and is a key addition to our leadership team, and we're excited to get started. Will be a huge asset in recruiting."
"I'm honored and excited for Will to join coaches Kasey Tapman, Maddy Sposito and I. We look forward to putting our team together for our first home match against VCU on Saturday March 29th."
"I'm excited to join the University of Maryland's field hockey program as Assistant Coach & Director of High Performance," said Holt. "It's an honor to be part of this program, and I'm looking forward to bringing my energy and experience to help build on its tradition of success."
Holt worked as an assistant coach at Louisville for two years and prior to the 2022 campaign he served as an assistant coach at Indiana University for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He returned to his alma mater where he spent four seasons as a volunteer coach from 2012-15 while earning his bachelor's and master's degrees. While at Indiana, Holt helped guide the 2021 Hoosiers to 10 wins including seven shutout victories, two ranked victories and a Big Ten Tournament appearance. After the season, Kira Curland was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament Team and NFHCA West Region Second Team. A member of the U.S. Men's National Field Hockey Team since 2008, Holt has also built an impressive resume as a player and a coach within the USA Field Hockey organization.
