COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland women's tennis team lost to No. 21 Washington 4-0 on Friday in the Terps conference opener at the JTCC.

Washington opened the match by taking the No. 3 doubles match 6-2 over Oliwia Orlinska and Tamari Gagoshidze

Kallista Liu and Ema Kovacevic faced #85 Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs in a back-and-forth No. 1 doubles match. Tied at 3-3 after six sets, Washington pulled away to win 6-4, clinching the doubles point for the Huskies.

Diya Challa and Danielle Hack trailed the No. 2 doubles match at 3-5 after eight sets, winning two straight to tie things up at 5-5 before the doubles point was clinched by Washington.
 

In the No. 2 singles match Washington's Erika Matsuda took a hard-fought first set 6-4, then took the second set 6-1 to push Washington ahead 2-0. Washington's Sophie Luescher followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tamari Gagoshidze in the No. 5 singles match, moving Washington up 3-0. 

Washington then took the No. 3 singles match over Danielle Hack after three hard-fought sets to clinch the 4-0 win.
 

In the No. 1 singles match Kallista Liu stayed cool under pressure, coming back from an 0-4 deficit to win the first set 7-5. Washington's Reece Carter led 5-4 in the second set when the match was suspended. Oliwia Orlinska was trailing 3-2 in the third set of the No. 4 singles match when the match was clinched. Diya Challa fought back in the No. 6 singles match after losing the first set 3-6, winning the second set 6-4, forcing a third set.
