Phillips Selected by the Miami Dolphins in Fifth Round of the 2025 NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, WI – University of Maryland defensive lineman Jordan Phillips was chosen by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.

With the selections of Phillips, wide receiver Tai Felton, who was selected in the third round on Friday and Ruben Hyppolite II in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears, Maryland has now had three or more players drafted in two of the last three NFL Drafts, with 10 total draftees in those three years.

Phillips, who was chosen No. 143 overall, becomes the first Terrapin defensive lineman drafted since Byron Cowart in 2019.

Phillips transferred to Maryland from Tennessee and has been a stalwart on Maryland's defensive line for the past two seasons. He's racked up 57 total tackles (31 solo), 2.5 of which have gone for a loss.

Phillips' freakish strength makes him an asset as a pass rusher and a run defender. Pro Football Focus graded Phillips as the 13th-best interior defender in the Big Ten with a 71.4 grade (min 500 snaps). His 71.3 tackling grade ranked fourth, and his 72.7 pass-rush grade ranked eighth.

Phillips participated in the East-West Shrine Bowl and the NFL Combine.
