COLLEGE PARK, MD – Head field hockey coach Missy Meharg has announced staff promotions as the Terrapins head into the 2025–26 season. Kasey Tapman Asper has been elevated to Associate Head Coach.
"After five years as a Terp athlete and five years as an assistant coach, Kasey has earned the opportunity to become an Associate Head Coach," Meharg said. "She brings a relentless work ethic, a growth mindset, deep loyalty, and a passion for studying the game. I'm so proud to work alongside her. Keep laughing and rolling, #4!"
Tapman Asper enters her seventh season with the program in 2025, having officially joined Meharg's staff as an assistant coach in June 2021. A standout player from 2011–15, she was a key member of the Terps' 2011 NCAA Championship team.
Prior to her current role, Tapman Asper served as Maryland's volunteer assistant coach in 2018 and 2019, contributing to film breakdown, working with the defensive penalty corner unit, and supporting travel and camp logistics.
Since becoming a full-time assistant coach, Tapman Asper has played a significant role in Maryland's success. In 2022, she helped lead the Terps to a 19-4 record, a Big Ten Championship, and an NCAA Final Four appearance. In her first season on staff in 2021, Maryland went 15-7 with seven wins over ranked opponents and another Final Four berth.
As a player, Tapman Asper appeared in 77 games and captained the Terps as a senior. Her career was highlighted by three major championships: the 2011 NCAA title, the 2013 ACC Championship, and the 2015 Big Ten Championship.
She was also a member of the U.S. Women's National Development Squad from 2017–21, serving as team captain in 2018, and competed with the U.S. Women's National Indoor Team from 2019–21, earning gold at the 2021 Pan American Indoor Championship.
Beyond Maryland, Tapman Asper has coached with Freedom HKY, leading U14, U16, and U19 teams. In 2020, she launched her own business, UnTapped Talent LLC, which offers clinics and camps throughout the Maryland area.
A native of Pocomoke City, Md., Tapman Asper holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology (2015) and a master's in Strategic Communications from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She is married to former two-time All-American Terrapin wrestler Josh Asper.
