WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Maryland men's soccer match with No. 6 Wake Forest has been canceled at halftime due to excessive lightning in the Winston-Salem area. The match will not continue, despite Maryland leading the No. 6-ranked team in the nation after 45 minutes of action
. Maryland got the lone goal from senior
Sadam Masereka in the ninth minute of play.
The Action:
- Masereka scored in the ninth minute and the goal was upheld after review. Assisted by Luca Costabile. Â
- Maryland fended off two early corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of play.Â
- Masereka found an open look in the 18th minute, but his shot sailed just high.Â
- Laurin Mack made a clutch diving stop in the 27th minute to keep Wake Forest off the board.Â
- Maryland led at the end of the first half, despite being outshot 6-5 in the opening frame.
The Terrapins were looking to finish off what could have been their first road win over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2018.Â
