Maryland's Match At No. 6 Wake Forest Cancelled Due to Lightning With Terps Up, 1-0

The Terps match with the Demon Deacons has been canceled due to lightning with Maryland leading 1-0.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Maryland men's soccer match with No. 6 Wake Forest has been canceled at halftime due to excessive lightning in the Winston-Salem area. The match will not continue, despite Maryland leading the No. 6-ranked team in the nation after 45 minutes of action. Maryland got the lone goal from senior Sadam Masereka in the ninth minute of play.

The Action:
  • Masereka scored in the ninth minute and the goal was upheld after review. Assisted by Luca Costabile.
  • Maryland fended off two early corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of play.
  • Masereka found an open look in the 18th minute, but his shot sailed just high.
  • Laurin Mack made a clutch diving stop in the 27th minute to keep Wake Forest off the board.
  • Maryland led at the end of the first half, despite being outshot 6-5 in the opening frame.
The Terrapins were looking to finish off what could have been their first road win over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2018.

Up Next:
  • The Terps stay on the road for a clash at Georgetown on Monday, Aug. 25. The match starts at 7:30 PM and will air on ESPN+.
