Maryland Sweeps Seton Hall to Continue Hot September

The Terps pulled off impressive rallies in each set to take down the Pirates.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Terps (7-3) continued their hot month of September on Friday with a sweep (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) of Seton Hall (5-5) to win their seventh match in their past eight contests. A strand of impressive comebacks earned Maryland a dominant win on its home floor.

Maryland rallied in the opening set to claim the icebreaker despite trailing 8-3 and 12-7. Ajack Malual and Eva Rohrbach traded kills as the Terps stormed back to take the initial set 25-21. Malual led the team with 11 kills on the night while Rohrbach was right behind her with nine. Ally Williams tallied a team-high 16 digs in the win.

Seton Hall led again midway through the second set, but Maryland forced four straight errors (the Pirates finished with eight in the set) to regain control. A crushing ace from Lilly Wagner capped off a 25-22 set win and a second Terps comeback.

The third set didn't feature any wild comebacks and neither squad was able to create enough momentum to pull away from the other. The Pirates and Terps found themselves tied at each mark 11 through 19. Maryland continued to apply pressure and force Seton Hall errors as the Terps erased a late 23-21 deficit to storm back for a 25-23 win. Adam Hughes' High Points:
  • "This group continues to find ways to win. We know we're going to be in battles all throughout Big Ten play. What I like about this team is that it's a resilient group."
  • "We're trying to find an edge offensively where we're balancing being aggressive and being mindful of shot selections."
  • "Rohrbach's one of our vet returners. She's someone that we back on. Over the past few years, she's been our steady rock. She's got a bit of an edge to her, which is something we love about her. I thought she was a big reason why we won Set 1. To almost lead the team in points as a middle is pretty hard to do. It was a great outing for her."
  • "Going into the spring, Ruy was one of our best offensive options on the outside. We know she's got a bright future."
Up Next:
  • Maryland takes to the road for a match with Iowa on Sept. 25. The match will start at 7 PM and air on B1G+.
