Men's Soccer Travels To Penn State To Continue B1G Play

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland men's soccer team will look to continue their four-match win streak as they travel to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State. The match will be aired on Big Ten Network and kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
Where We've Been
  • The Terps are off to a terrific start to the 2025 season, holding a 5-0-1 record - the Terps best start since the 2017 season.
  • Maryland took down Wisconsin in their Big Ten opener, winning the match 3-1.
  • Leon Koehl netted his first goal of the season in the first half, while Stephane Njike and Rocket Ritarita closed the match with goals in the second half vs. the Badgers.
  • The Terps are coming off a 2-1 win vs. Pitt with Sadam Masereka and Stephane Njike scoring the goals.

PREVIewING THE TERPS
  • The Terrapins enter the 2025 season with a combination of hungry returners and talented newcomers who will try and forge a winning identity as the Terps look to return to the top of college soccer.
  • The 2025 roster features 13 seniors and four juniors, good for 17 upperclassmen out of the 29 man roster. The squad also features 18 returners from the 2024 team, with eight in the projected starting 11. 
  • Maryland netted 33 goals in 2024, and players responsible for 25 of them are back on the 2025 roster (76%).

BIG TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Three Terps were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list, the league announced Tuesday. The players are Luca Costabile, Leon Koehl, and Sadam Masereka.
  • Senior captain Luca Costabile headlines the back row for the Terps in 2025. In the two 2024 NCAA Tournament games for the Terps, Costabile netted one goal and added two assists. 
  • Junior Leon Koehl will look to build off his terrific 2024 season where he was named First Team All-Big Ten after netting seven penalty kick goals for the Terps, a mark that led the NCAA. 
  • Sadam Masereka, coming off a season with four goals and two assists, will look to cap off his collegiate career in a big way in 2025.
Welcome the NEWCOMERS
  • The Terrapins have welcomed 11 newcomers, a combination of freshmen and transfers that will bolster the roster for the 2025 season. 
  • Maryland picked up two senior transfers from UMBC: Joseph Picotto and Lasse Kelp. Kelp will look to add to the defensive line in 2025 while Picotto will play all over the field at the midfield position.
  • The Terps brought in seven incoming freshmen: Luke Burdett, Mateo Caride, Rocket Ritarita, Henry Bernstein, Alexander Milosevic, Emil Nymann, and Casey Price
  • The final two transfers for Maryland are sophomore Stephane Njike and senior Tristen Rose. Njike joins the Terrapins after a year at LIU, whom the Terps defeated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Rose joins Maryland for his senior season after spending the previous few seasons at the University of Charleston. Rose was named a 2024 Division II Second Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. He helped lead Charleston to the 2024 Division II National Championship and three consecutive Mountain East Conference Championships.
  • Recently signed defender Farouk Cisse will look to make an immediate impact on the 2025 season after spending the last few seasons playing club with Borussia Dortmund.
