
Maryland Sweeps Old Dominion for Season's First Win

The Terps dominated the Monarchs in Baltimore on Friday.
BALTIMORE, MD - Maryland (1-2) earned its first win of the season in sweeping fashion (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) over Old Dominion (0-5) on Friday. Ajack Malual led the way as she was responsible for a team-high 12.5 points.
Maryland found its footing in a competitive first set before storming ahead to take the second set with commanding force. The Terps held on in Set 3 to seal their first win of the weekend. Haley Melby had nine kills, Malual recorded a trio of aces and Eva Rohrbach hit .364 across all three sets as the Terps downed the Monarchs.

Set 1:

- Old Dominion jumped out to a 5-1 lead.
- Maryland rallied back to tie the set a 7-7.
- Back-and-forth action with a steady flow of kills and errors led to a 17-14 Maryland lead.
- A service ace from ODU capped off a run that brought the set to 18-18.
- A 3-0 run from Maryland gave the Terps a 21-18 lead and forced an ODU timeout.
- The Monarchs used a run of their own to tie the set at 22 as Maryland took a timeout.
- An attack error from ODU sealed a 25-23 set win for the Terps.
- Lilly Wagner had eight of UMD's 10 assists in the first set.
- The Monarchs opened a 2-0 lead, but the Terps rallied to tie the set at four.
- Maryland forced back-to-back ODU attack errors to spark a 3-0 run and force an ODU timeout with the Terps up 12-9.
- Maryland used its momentum to build an 18-12 advantage as ODU continued to make attack errors.
- The Terps ran away with the second set for a 25-16 win in the second set.
- ODU opened up another 2-0 lead.

Those situations are important for us to learn and grow. I still feel like this group has a ton of potential and we know we have some work to do to clean some things up but we're excited for another opportunity to compete tomorrow"
- The Terps take on William & Mary in Baltimore on Sept. 6. The match will start at 12:30 PM.
