
Late Goal Pushes No. 5 Duke Past No. 4 Maryland 2-1

The Terps fell to the Blue Devils to close out the B1G/ACC Challenge.
DURHAM, NC - The No. 4 Terrapins (2-2) fell to No. 5 Duke on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils scored a pair of goals on corners, one coming in the final minutes, to earn the win on their home turf.
The first quarter only featured one shot, but it came on a Duke corner and Julia Boehringer buried it to put the Blue Devils ahead 1-0. Neither team tallied more than one shot in a heavily-defensive second quarter as the lead held through the half.
Maryland's Jordyn Hollamon — reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week — put Maryland on the board early in the 4th quarter on the Terps' second corner of the day. The Terps put a barrage of shots on goal in the final quarter, but Duke made several defensive stands.
The Blue Devils scored on another corner in the 56th minute on a shot from Alaina McVeigh. Even with the empty net, Maryland was unable to respond, falling to No. 5 Duke 2-1.

How it Happened:
1st Quarter:
- Duke scored on its first shot in the seventh minute on a corner. Boehringer scored for the Blue Devils.
- Each team recorded just one shot in the second quarter and put it on goal, but Duke's goalkeeper turned it away.
- Feliz Kuhne had Maryland's first shot in the 19th minute.
- Duke took its 1-0 lead into the half.
- Djuna Eikelboom forced Duke to make another save on a great look out front.
- Maryland had the only shot in the 3rd quarter, but Duke's defense remained steady.
- Duke fought off Maryland's first corner early in the quarter to keep the match scoreless.
- Maryland took another corner minutes later and scored on Hollamon's third goal of the season.
- The Blue Devils defended a pair of penalty corners in the 50th minute.
- Duke's McVeigh scored her second goal of the season in the 56th minute.
- Maryland returns to College Park for the Terrapin Invitational, which starts with a match with Pennsylvania on Sept. 12. The match will start at 4 PM and air on B1G+.
