Gökçen Earns Big Ten Weekly Awards

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Duru Gökçen earned her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Terps to a 3-0 weekend at UMBC.

She was also named UMBC Tournament MVP, finishing the weekend with 20 kills and 21 total blocks across three matches. The sophomore posted five blocks in Friday's sweep of Old Dominion, added eight blocks and eight kills in a 3-1 win over William & Mary, and closed the weekend with nine kills and six blocks in the sweep of UMBC.

Gökçen was additionally recognized as the Solomon Eye Terp of the Week. Each week during the 2025–26 season, a Maryland student-athlete who demonstrates excellence on and off the field will be selected for the honor, presented by Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons.

Maryland opens its home schedule against Delaware State on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in College Park.
