The Terps played a key part in a historic 30th year of the organization.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ), an organization run by the National College Athlete Honor Society, announced a historic 2025-26 class earlier in September.
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student-athletes who receive a varsity letter in their sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester, and earn a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.
A record 19,024 student-athletes were welcomed into Chi Alpha Sigma during the 2025-26 academic year. Among them were 48 Terps from 16 different Maryland varsity sports with a 3.699 GPA.
"Induction into Chi Alpha Sigma is one of the highest academic honors a student-athlete can achieve, reflecting a level of scholarly dedication that matches their drive in competition," Associate Athletic Director Brady Rourke said. "Maintaining an elite grade point average while navigating the grueling demands of college athletics requires immense intellectual discipline, time management, and resilience. This distinction speaks directly to our student-athletes' commitment to academic excellence, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate their outstanding achievement in the classroom as true Terrapin scholars."
Chi Alpha Sigma provides outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Chi Alpha Sigma just marked its third straight year with five-digit induction numbers.
