New platform will connect Maryland student-athletes with businesses, donors, alumni and fans seeking name, image and likeness opportunities
COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland Athletics, in partnership with Teamworks Influencer, has launched the Terps NIL Exchange, providing a streamlined platform that connects Terrapin student-athletes with businesses, donors, alumni and fans seeking name, image and likeness opportunities.
The launch expands Maryland Athletics' relationship with Teamworks and builds upon the department's use of Influencer to support student-athlete content distribution, personal brand development and NIL management.
Free for Maryland student-athletes and participating organizations, the Terps NIL Exchange provides a customized portal through which registered users can search for student-athletes, initiate conversations and develop market-based NIL partnerships.
"The launch of the Terps NIL Exchange represents another important investment in the student-athlete experience at Maryland," said Jason Yellin, Senior Associate Athletic Director/Strategic Communications Officer with Maryland Athletics. "This platform gives our student-athletes a direct and accessible way to build relationships, expand their personal brands and pursue meaningful NIL opportunities with businesses and supporters throughout the region and beyond."
Businesses and other interested parties can register for the Terps NIL Exchange at http://umterps.com/exchange. Once registered, users can access a searchable database of participating Maryland student-athletes and filter profiles using a variety of criteria. Registered users can then contact student-athletes directly to discuss potential partnerships.
Opportunities may include social media promotions, appearances, autograph sessions, camps and clinics, brand endorsements and other permissible NIL activities. Maryland Athletics and Teamworks Influencer will not participate directly in negotiations between student-athletes and registered users.
Once the parties reach an agreement, the Terps NIL Exchange allows the business or organization to create a transaction, pay the student-athlete securely and complete the required disclosure process. The platform also assists with tax reporting by generating the appropriate documentation within the student-athlete's Influencer account.
"The Terps NIL Exchange brings Maryland's NIL opportunities, content and reporting capabilities together within the Teamworks platform student-athletes already use," said Sean Kelly, Senior Account Executive at Teamworks. "We are excited to expand our partnership with Maryland Athletics and provide Terrapin student-athletes with technology that helps them build their brands, connect with supporters and manage opportunities more efficiently."
The Exchange complements Maryland's broader use of Teamworks Influencer. Through the Influencer app, student-athletes can access photos and videos produced by Maryland Athletics and share that content through their personal social media channels. The platform also provides resources related to personal branding, social media performance, financial literacy and NIL education.
Organizations interested in using University of Maryland trademarks or other protected intellectual property in connection with an NIL activity must receive the necessary authorization through Maryland Athletics and its multimedia rights partner.
The Terps NIL Exchange is open to student-athletes from Maryland's 20 varsity sports.
