COLLEGE PARK, MD — Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, Maryland women's tennis returns to the court this spring, looking to build on its historic 2026 campaign.
The Terps finished the 2026 season with an 18-8 overall record and an 8-5 mark in Big Ten play, tying the program record for wins in a season and establishing a new program record for conference victories. Maryland also reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history and earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2011. Official Maryland Athletics coverage.
The Terps will open their spring slate at home against James Madison and Morgan State on Jan. 16 before heading to Durham, North Carolina, for a pair of matchups against Washington and either Duke or Dartmouth
The Terps' schedule features a mix of non-conference tests and key Big Ten matchups, with opportunities to build their résumé both at home and on the road.
Maryland will welcome Richmond and Loyola for a doubleheader on Jan. 30 before traveling to Norfolk, Virginia, for matches against Kansas and Old Dominion on Feb. 6-7. The Terps will also make trips to Columbia on Feb. 19 and Delaware on Feb. 25 as they continue preparing for the heart of conference play.
Big Ten competition ramps up in March, beginning with a road match against Rutgers on March 6 and a trip to Illinois and Northwestern later in the month. Maryland will then return to College Park for a pivotal home weekend against Penn State on March 20 and Ohio State on March 21.
The Terps will close March with road contests at Nebraska and Iowa before returning home to face Purdue on April 2 and Indiana on April 4. A trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin follows before Maryland concludes its listed regular-season schedule with home matches against Michigan State on April 16 and Michigan on April 18.
Maryland enters the spring following a productive fall season highlighted by individual accomplishments and breakthrough performances on the national stage.
Freshman Anastasiia Sorska emerged as one of the Terps' standout performers, going undefeated in singles at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships to earn a berth in the NCAA Fall Singles Championship. Her qualification marked Maryland's first singles representative at the fall NCAA championships since 2021.
The Terps also found success in doubles, as senior Diya Challa and junior Emma Ghirardato captured the ITA Atlantic Regional doubles title. The pair defeated Virginia's top-seeded team in the final to secure an NCAA Fall Doubles Championship berth. The accomplishments marked the first time in 20 years that Maryland qualified representatives for both the singles and doubles fall NCAA championships.
Other fall highlights included Aida Eissa's Flight A singles title at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational and Oliwia Orlinska's strong performance at the ITA All-American Championships, where she advanced into the main draw in singles and doubles.
Maryland will also look to its two newcomers to make an impact throughout the spring.
Mila Mulready, a junior transfer from Virginia Tech, joins the Terps after appearing in every match for the Hokies during her sophomore season. She recorded seven doubles victories while primarily competing on the second doubles court, adding collegiate experience and versatility to Maryland's lineup.
Sorska arrives from Kharkiv, Ukraine, with an accomplished junior résumé that included three singles titles and two doubles titles. Her fall performance has already translated to the collegiate stage, highlighted by her run through the ITA Atlantic Regional singles draw and qualification for the NCAA Fall Singles Championship.
Maryland returns an experienced group featuring Challa, Ghirardato, Eissa, Katherine Hung, Ema Kovacevic and Orlinska, alongside developing underclassmen Magdalena Baniak and Lucia Donnelly. The roster combines veteran leadership with emerging talent, while Mulready and Sorska bring additional depth following their fall contributions.
