COLLEGE PARK, MD – The University of Maryland Women's Tennis team won its eighth match of the season against #56-ranked UPenn this afternoon, 6-1. This improves their record to 8-1 before the team embarks on a road trip to the West Coast next week.
In doubles, the Terps clinched the point with two sweeps from "The Polish Express" (
Oliwia Orlinska and
Magdalena Baniak) and the dynamic junior duo (
Aida Eissa and
Diya Challa).
In singles matches, the Terps picked up early points from
Ema Kovacevic and
Magdalena Baniak, giving them a 3-0 lead.
To clinch the victory,
Emma Ghirardato battled in the second set, eventually winning her match 6-3, 7-5.
Oliwia Orlinska bounced back from being down 4-2 in the first set to winning both sets, including the second set 6-2!
A win from
Tamari Gagoshidze and a loss from
Lucia Donnelly made the final score 6-1.
