STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Maryland wrestling team wrapped up day two of the 2026 Big Ten Wrestling Championships on Sunday, placing three wrestlers on the podium with top-seven finishes.
Maryland finished the tournament with 35.5 team points, placing 11th overall.
The top finisher for the Terps was redshirt senior transfer and No. 5 seed Carter Young, who placed fourth in the 149-pound weight class in his first Big Ten Championships. After automatically qualifying for the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Young opened Sunday in the consolation semifinals with a dominant 11–3 major decision over Wisconsin's No. 3 seed Joseph Zargo to advance to the third-place match. In that bout, Young was narrowly edged by Michigan's No. 4 seed Lachlan McNeil in a 1–0 decision to finish fourth.
Following Young was 141-pounder and No. 11 seed redshirt sophomore Dario Lemus, who battled his way to an automatic NCAA qualifying spot on Saturday for the first time in his career. Lemus finished sixth after falling to Minnesota's No. 3 seed in the consolation semifinals and then narrowly dropping the fifth-place match to Rutgers' No. 10 seed Joey Olivieri.
Rounding out the podium for the Terps was true sophomore Branson John, who reached the podium for the second consecutive year. After securing an NCAA qualification on Saturday, John won his seventh-place match by medical forfeit over Purdue's No. 9 seed Ben Vanadia.
Young, Lemus, and John will return to action Thursday, March 19, when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to compete in the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
