Recapping an action-packed day of football on Maryland Day in College Park.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — As the University of Maryland celebrated Maryland Day across campus, the Terps took the field at SECU Stadium for their first-ever Spring Showcase as they put a fun twist on spring football focused around creating a new experience for Maryland fans.
"We got the work we wanted to get done this spring," head coach Michael Locksley said. "The importance of today was to have interactions and make sure Maryland Day was the point of emphasis. We were able to open the house for this beautiful campus, play a little bit of football, and build a lot of interactions between fans and a really good team."
For the first 45 minutes of the showcase, the Terps ran an open practice where fans were able to watch the 2026 Terps display their skills in position-specific drills, creating enthusiasm for the upcoming season. The behind-the-scenes look at stars like Malik Washington, Sidney Stewart, and Zion Elee to kick off an exciting day of football in College Park.
"It was awesome to see all the fans out," Elee said. "We got to feel that at-home atmosphere. It was great to showcase the talent that we have and what we're planning to do this season."
With plenty of new faces both on the roster and coaching staff, Maryland was able to continue to build toward next season in front of the fans that will soon pack SECU Stadium for another season of Big Ten football.
"As the landscape of college football continues to change, we're always looking for ways to improve, whether it's how we practice or improve play on the field," Locksley said. "Some of the changes we've made on staff really benefited us in terms of the development of our team. We're learning some new lessons that hopefully will benefit us this year."
In the most exciting portion of an action-packed day, fans were able to play EA Sports College Football 25 on the videoboard against Maryland players, race players in a 40-yard dash, compete in dance competitions against players, test their luck in a field goal kicking contest, and catch punts from the JUGS machine.
"It was fun," Washington said. "It gave fans the chance to be around us a little more, be able to see our faces, and understand how we think, not just as players, but as people. I think it makes it so more people want to come out to SECU Stadium."
Throughout the entirety of the day, Maryland hosted Terpsville Fan Fest presented by Sardi's. Fans were able to check out Jones Hill House — the team's indoor facility — play on inflatables, play lawn games, get their faces painted, and collect autographs from student-athletes from several Maryland teams.
Within Terpsville Fan Fest, the Terps hosted a gear sale of exclusive team-issued items including authentic game jerseys, helmets and more, giving Maryland fans a unique opportunity to get their hands on gear from their favorite Terp teams.
Maryland also celebrated Donor & Football Season Ticket Member Appreciation Day. With plenty of Terrapin Club donors and football season ticket members in attendance, Maryland was able to honor its rich football history with some letterwinners who helped shape it. The Terps hosted a tailgate inside Terpsville Fan Fest for football letterwinners, giving fans the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Terps.
"It's all just preparation for the year," Preston Howard said. "It builds a whole bunch of excitement and lets fans see the plays we can make and get everyone even more excited for the fall."

"Overall, all of Maryland Day was incredible," Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics Jim Smith said. "The University does an incredible job opening it up to the community, and I thought we really did our part today at football. We ran some good practice, but most importantly, people got to get to know our guys a little bit more and see how hard they work."That was fun! 🐢
