Former Terp Named Rhode Island Women's Coach
Talented Pearman was with Maryland for 15 seasons.
April 14, 1999
KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island named Belinda "Boe" Pearman, the former
associate coach of the defunct American Basketball League's New England
Blizzard, as its new coach on Wednesday. Pearman replaces Linda Ziemke,
who spent 10 years at the helm of Rhode Island but saw her teams post a
18-63 record over the last three seasons, including a 5-22 mark this
past campaign and a last-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Pearman helped the Blizzards move from the bottom of the league the
previous season to a second-place finish in the Eastern Division with a
24-20 record and a playoff berth.
Pearman also served as an assistant for 12 seasons (1985-1997) at
Maryland where the Terps qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments and were
ranked No. 1 for nearly a month during the 1991-92 season. She also
played collegiately for the Terrapins, winning three ACC crowns with
three Sweet Sixteen and one Final Four appearance. Pearman still is
ranked among Maryland career leaders in points, rebounds and blocks.
