Black Team Surges to 42 Points in Win over White Team
McCall and Jones duel in Maryland spring game.

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--Sophomore quarterback Randall Jones threw two touchdown passes to senior Jermaine Arrington to lead the Black team to a 42-14 win over the White squad this evening at Byrd Stadium in the Terps' annual spring football game.
Jones and redshirt freshman QB Calvin McCall dueled for most of the game--even switching teams in the second quarter--as each reached the century mark on the night. Jones notched 129 yards, while completing seven of his 11 attempts. McCall was 10 for 18 for 123 yards.
The White team was spotted seven points at the beginning of each half.
Junior running back LaMont Jordan led all rushers with 104 yards on 9 carries, including a 47-yard sprint down the sideline. Junior Matt Kalapinski added six carries for 40 yards. Junior running back Mukala Sikyala rushed for 32 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Black squad.
After a quiet first half, Arrington exploded with four second-half receptions totaling 92 yards. His first touchdown came on a 57-yard over-the-shoulder catch from Jones to give the Black team a 14-point lead. With four minutes remaining in the game, he caught his second score on 12 yard pass.
Senior Bryn Boggs led all tacklers with eight stops and senior Erwyn Lyght added two and a half sacks.
At halftime, head coach Ron Vanderlinden announced the spring awards. Linebacker Marlon Moore was named top freshman; wide receiver Jason Hatala was top sophomore; safety Shawn Forte was top junior; wide receiver Jermaine Arrington was top senior; and senior defensive back Renard Cox was deemed most improved.
The Terps open the season at Temple on Sept. 2.
