TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The 4x400 meter relay team placed second with a time of 3:41.09 and
the 4x100 hurdle relay team finished fourth with a time of 59.32 to lead the University of Maryland
women's track team to a sixth place finish at the Alabama Relays on Sunday.
The Terps placed in the top 10 of five of the relay events to propel the team toward the front of
the 29 scoring schools from around the country.
The 4x100 relay team placed sixth (45.95), the 1600 sprint medley relay team finished eighth
(4:02.74), and the 4x1500 relay team placed sixth (19:18.28) to pace the women.
Also faring well for Maryland was freshman Ruth Kura (Potomac, Md.), who finished 11th in the
hammer throw with a toss of 152-1. Senior Cathy Porter (Millersville, Md.) finished 14th in the same
event with a mark of 151-1. In addition, freshman Labelle Hillgrove (Passaic, N.J.) finished 14th in the
discus with a distance of 135-11.
In men's action, the 4x200 relay team finished 13th with a time of 1:28.73, and the 1600 sprint
medley relay team placed 17th a time of 3:30.47.
The Alabama Relays, which spanned four days and concluded Sunday, featured 47 schools from
around the country.
