DeLoatch Leads Women's Track Team At ECAC/IC4A Championships

Princeton, N.J. - Senior Candyce DeLoatch will compete in the championship finals of three events -- individually in the 400-meter dash and as a member of the Terps' 4X100 and 4X400 meter relay teams -- on Sunday's final day of competition of the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships at William Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University. She is one of six Terp women who will compete in the finals of one or more events as the largest collegiate track and field meet comes to a close on Sunday.
DeLoatch (Pittsgrove, N.J.), who has already qualified for the NCAA championship meet in the 400-meter dash, ran the third best time on Saturday in her specialty event. She won her heat of the 400 in a time of 56.91. She also ran the second leg for the Terps' 4X100-meter relay team that also won its heat and qualified for Sunday's championship final in a time of 47.06. She then anchored Maryland's 4X400-meter relay team that qualified for the finals in a time of 3:45.78. It was the second fastest time of the day.
Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.) qualified for the championship in three events as well. She will run in Sunday's finals as a member of the 4X100 and 4X400-meter relay teams and with a near personal best time of 24>34 in the 200-meter dash. Burley qualified for the finals of the 200 with the third fastest time in the preliminary round.
Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.) is the third member of the team who will compete in three championship final events on Sunday. She will run in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles and as a member of the Terps' 4X400 meter relay team. She finished with Saturday's fourth fastest time of 1:01.66 in the 400-meter hurdles and the day's fifth fastest time of 14.20 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Results From Saturday's Third Round (Maryland Women) Punnie Chittchang (Mount Airy, Md.) nearly tied her season best with a 5.52-meter long jump in finishing in 13th place. Stacey Minott (Greenburg, N.Y.) finished eighth in her heat in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.63. Candyce DeLoatch (Pittsgrove, N.J.) finished first in her heat in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.91. She has already qualified for the NCAA championships in the event. Her time was the third best of the day and she will run in the finals of the event at 12:45 Sunday. Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.) finished second in her heat in the 100-meter high hurdles in a time of 14.20. She will run in the finals of the event at 12:27 Sunday with the fifth fastest time. She finished with the second fastest time in her heat of the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. She will run in the finals of the event at 1:17 on Sunday with the fourth fastest time. Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.) won her heat of the 200-meter dash in a near personal best time of 24.34 and qualified for Sunday's final with the third fastest time of the day. Women's 4X400 Meter relay (Tia Burley, Dionne Hamilton, Theman Napier, Candyce DeLoatch) qualified with the second best time in their heat and the fifth best time in the event for the day. The team will run in the which will go off at 2:50 on Sunday. Women's 4X100 Meter Relay (Stacey Minott) won their heat in a time of 47:06 and qualified as the second fastest team for Sunday's final which is scheduled to go off at noon. Phillip Barrett finished fifth in his heat and 14th overall in the men's 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 14.78which is just over two tenths of a second off his best time of the season.
Results From Saturday's Third Round (Maryland Men) Dontae Bugg (Newport News, Va.) finished fifth in his heat and 16th overall in the men's 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 14.83. John Carr (Washington, D.C.) finished second in his heat and qualified for Sunday's finals of the 100-meter dash. He ran the sixth fastest time of the day, 10.76, in the event. He also finished fifth in his heat of the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.03. It was the 17th fastest time of the day. Jason Joubert (Rockville, Md.) ran the second fastest time in his heat of the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 52.58. Cedrick Rogers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished 23rd in the long jump with a jump of 6.4 meters.
